and it has been so cold all week. i'm looking forward to the weekend. >> since sandy went through, our temperatures have been above average and finally made to 60 degrees yesterday and that's the trend for the weekend, not a chilly. that won't last forever but it's landing on the weekend which is a good thing. to get the warmerir in here, we really have to have a warm front come in and that's the process going to right now. you can see on the radar, don't be put off by this. at the moment, clear skies, crescent moon out there this morning up in the eastern sky. the moon has been rising for the past few hours. but we do have with this warm front and warmer air coming in from the west, a little bit of cloud and shower activity. it's almost just sprinkles in the mountains of pennsylvania going through johnstown right now, moving in our direction. we could see a few clouds this morning and maybe a sprinkle or brief shower but basically the weekend forecast is a good one and i'll have details coming up in a couple of minutes. >> a bombshell resignation washington is our big story this morni

hurricane sandy slammed into the east coast, president obama heads into the damaged zone for a second time. today he will visit staten island to evaluate recovery efforts there. it's his first visit to sandy's impact zone in about two weeks when the president toured parts of new jersey with governor chris christie. >>> and the president's visit comes as two of the biggest utility companies face investigation into how well they prepared and responded to superstorm sandy. con edison and long island power both received subpoenas yesterday requesting records on restoring power and communicating with customers. the storm left 2 million in new york in the dark for days. some still don't have their powerback. >>> one family found dozens of touching displays of love on the beach. the pack of love letters was soaking wet with had the family found them. after drying them out, they read the letters from a young woman to her boyfriend. >> i want to return them to whoever they belong to. they're so beautiful. she must have adored him. i love you, dear, and miss you very much. all my love always, dotty.

hit by hurricane sandy. sam, you were out there last week. this one's coming now. >> all eyes are rightfully focused on this storm. moving into an area that's been pounded by a really large storm. this may be a garden variety nor'easter, but it carries with it very cold air. watch this low get into position and get into place. we'll freeze it at the critical times. it starts with a rain and snow mix in d.c. and in philly and new york city. right around coastal areas, we're hoping for a changeover to rain here. that means it will knock down the snow totals. you won't be able to measure this as a big snow event on the coast. but inland areas will continue to pile up with the snow. watch that low continue to pull away, and know that this is a mixture of snow and rain, right along the coast. all snow inland and a little coastal surf along the shoreline. it's tough enough to ride out a nor'easter in the far rackaways, when you have everything you need. but without homes and without clothes and without foods, it's very difficult. and ginger zee is there. good morning, ginger. >> goo
